Veterans' Day

For the latest news and commentary: the Manteca Live "blog!"

Right:  Tammy Diaz, pictured here wearing her husband's jacket at the Veteran's Day service in Manteca.  Her husband is currently serving in Iraq.   Mrs Diaz said it would be great if he could log in from overseas.  Manteca Live! is  happy to oblige.

Election Day results:  Voters say maybe a new tax isn't such a bad idea considering the alternative is enduring four more years of whining from the Mayor and Council.

Yes, that is real.  The governor did say that about me in an email dated 3 Feb 2006, 2:05 AM.  I feel a little bad I kept him up that late.

New feature:

A look at things that you read here first.

  • You read here that the Manteca Unified School Board's plan to charge "$2 a day to ride the school bus" was just a propaganda threat, to frighten people into voting them a raise.  Jackie wrote it would "quietly go away."  I didn't know it would only take 8 days after the election!  Read more at Measure M.
  • You can also read about how, back in October, I wrote that the "hype" about the terrible flu season was just a ploy to sell the new expensive vaccine.  See Flu Attack!
  • You can also read about the tragedy in the Larch-Clover neighborhood.  The humble people in this enclave were living relatively independent lives.  That is, until the City of Tracy saw the land and coveted it.  Now, as I predicted back in October, lives are being crushed and people are at risk of losing their homes.
  • Manteca bond , supposed to fix the "falling apart" schools, is going to lavish pay raises for administrators..
